1963

  • 30 January 1963 – Kuang junction closed down and all scheduled trains except 541/542 between Rawang and Batu Arang were withdrawn

1964

  • 9 units of 17-class Diesel Hydraulic shunter locomotives arrived from Kisha Seizo Kaisha (KSK) of Japan.

1965

  •  15 units of the 21.1 class Diesel Hydraulic locomotives were received from Kisha Seizo Kaisha (KSK) of Japan
  • 6 units of 17-class Diesel Hydraulic shunter locomotives arrived from Kisha Seizo Kaisha (KSK) of Japan.

1966

  • 4 March 1966 the new Jurong branch in Singapore was officially open to traffic
  • 6 April 1966 Sungai Golok station officiated and opened
  • 6 June 1966 Batu Village new station opened
  • 15 units of 28.1 class Diesel railcars were received
  • BTA (Bogie Tank Ammonia) wagons put into service for CCM Malaysia –

1967

  • 1 April 1967 A new service comprising of railcars called the “Rengkas” was launched between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore
  • 14 September 1967 Butterworth station and swing bridge open to traffic operation
  • 15 September 1967 Butterworth – Padang Besar railcar service extended to Haadyai in Thailand
  • Railcar service between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh extended to Butterworth

1968

  • 23 April 1968 Tren rengkas 15dn from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore being worked by railcar head unit 28104 collided with mixed train 88up at Layang-Layang in Johor.
  • 14 November 1968 Fire destroyed KTM’s computers in the general office as well as the audit section
  • Prai -Penang vessels “Violet”, “Elizabeth” and “Pelangi” were sold off via tender

1969

  • 10 units of the 21.2 class Diesel Hydraulic locomotives were received from Kisha Seizo Kaisha (KSK) of Japan
